Vendors enjoy good sales at PNP conference

Around 40 minutes before the climax of the People’s National Party’s (PNP) annual conference yesterday, Delroy Blair was pouring water on the hot charcoal in his jerk pan after selling all the 150 pounds of seasoned jerk chicken he brought.

Blair’s success of making all the profit he intended on, and selling all his stock for the day, was just one success story of numerous vendors on the grounds of the National Arena on Sunday, especially those selling soup during the event.

The vendors say the hundreds of comrades who went to the event wholeheartedly supported them.

“It gwaan good man! It gwaan good! Because a di last amount mi de pan right now,” Blair told THE STAR while packing up his wares.

Blair, like many other vendors, who are all supporters of the PNP, said they were assisted with getting a booth through their various members constituency representatives in the PNP.

Blair said he is from the Islington division and supports Dr Morais Guy, member of parliament for St Mary Central.

Coleen Hunter, another vendor who sold food items such as fried chicken, festival, plantain and bottled juices, told THE STAR that Waynette Strachan, councillor candidate for the Hagley Park division, hook her up with the booth, and she is satisfied with the profit she made, although it could have been better.

“It nuh really great, but we mek a little thing. It nuh really great because we bought 10 pounds of rice and some still leave,” Hunter told THE STAR.

Another soup vendor, Annmarie, from St Andrew South Eastern, was grateful for her sales on Sunday.

“It’s not too bad,” she said.
