The video shows an elephant running towards an Australian Kasun Basnayake and his family in the rental van when it unexpectedly emerges from the trees in Yala National Park.
When it finds nothing to eat, it uses its tusk to break through the driver’s window and reaches inside the car using the trunk.
This is the moment, while on vacation in Sri Lanka, the family was left stunned when an elephant charged at their vehicle and broke through a glass in quest of food.
The tourists were shocked when, in an attempt to satisfy its appetite, the wild elephant crashed through the window of the van.
The elephant entered their space and sent a wave of panic through the car, leaving the people inside terrified.
Kasun, from Perth, Western Australia, told the BBC: “It started sniffing around our feet for food and the driver told us to give it anything we had so I fed it my son’s leftover sandwich.”
“He told me to throw the rest out the window so I did and the driver then managed to speed off… Those sandwiches and chips probably saved our lives.”
During the whole event, no injuries were reported.
