Former India captain Virat Kohli caused a sensation on Saturday night with a poignant message celebrating his team’s victory in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa.

The Men in Blue secured a thrilling 7-run win over the Proteas in the summit clash, claiming their second World Cup trophy and ending an 11-year drought of ICC titles.

Emotions ran high as the 35-year-old shed tears of joy while celebrating his first T20 World Cup triumph alongside captain Rohit Sharma and their teammates on the field in Barbados.

Subsequently, Kohli took to social media to express his gratitude to both the divine and his loyal fans for their unwavering support.

“Couldn’t have dreamt of a better day than this. God is great and I bow my head in gratitude. We finally did it. Jai Hind,” Kohli wrote.

His post has received over 1.7 crore likes and continues to gain traction. It went live nearly 19 hours ago and has already become the most liked post on Instagram in India.

In addition to receiving likes from legends in the Indian cricket and Bollywood industries, the post was also appreciated by former UFC champion Conor McGregor.

Virat Kohli, who had been struggling to score runs before the final, emerged as the top scorer in the crucial match with an impressive 76 runs to propel India towards victory. His exceptional batting performance against a formidable South African bowling attack earned him the prestigious Player of the Match award.

Following a brief video call with his family, Kohli made the decision to retire from T20Is after receiving the POTM accolade.

“This was my last t20 World Cup, and this is what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel you can’t get a run, then things happen. God is great, and I got the job done for the team on the day it mattered.

“Now or never, last T20 for India, wanted to make the most of it. Wanted to lift the cup, wanted to respect the situation rather than force it. This was an open secret, it’s time for the next generation to take over, some amazing players will take the team forward and keep the flag waving high,” Kohli said.
