Feb. 12 (UPI) — Bobby Berk says starring on Queer Eye was a “life-changing” experience.

The interior designer and television personality reflected on his time on the show during Monday’s episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Queer Eye is a Netflix reboot of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy that follows a new “Fab Five” as they help transform the lives of individuals in different U.S. cities. Berk announced his exit from the show in November after eight seasons.

On The Jennifer Hudson Show, Berk said Queer Eye has been “one of the most amazing gifts” for both himself and viewers.

“What we’re able to do, how we’re able to help people, how we’re able to help our heroes, has been such a blessing from God,” he told host Jennifer Hudson.

Berk recalled how he almost missed auditions for Queer Eye because he was supposed to visit Spain for work.

“I almost didn’t go, but luckily auditions started two days before I was supposed to go to Spain. I went and I didn’t think it went well, but then I got a call to come back to the final day of auditions,” the star said.

“That’s actually when I had the meltdown … because the first iteration, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, meant so much to me. It was the first time [I saw] real, true, gay representation — that I could look up to people and be like, ‘I’m going to be okay,”” he added. “And so to be on a show that meant so much to me, was just life-changing.”

Queer Eye Season 8, Berk’s final season on the show, premiered Jan. 24 on Netflix.
