An IDF soldier, seeing a piano in a home abandoned in Nachal Oz following the Hamas invasion of Oct 7, entered the house and began playing a piece originally composed by Chopin and featured in the movie “The Pianist,” which is set in the Holocaust.
The video of the soldier, Tal, playing the piano was uploaded to social media, where the homeowner saw it, after his son showed it to him, and was amazed. The homeowner searched for information about the soldier, wanting to share with him how moved he was by seeing the video.
The family, who hid in their safety room during the attacks on Oct. 7, said that terrorists entered their home twice, but were unable to harm them.
The soldier’s wife said that her grandfather had a similar experience 50 years ago when the IDF entered Ismailia, in Egypt, during the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
He had found a piano in one of the abandoned buildings and began to play during a break in the fighting, according to Tal’s wife.
