Why Many Nigerians Should Be AI Compliant

SILAS ADEKUNLE Talks About AI Revolution

Artificial Intelligence simply called AI, is the next phase of human advancement. The world is already gravitating towards the newest form of Technology which helps information gathering and processing. Many advanced countries are already integrating their data base and fast adopting the AI revolution.  As fast as the world is tilting towards AI, Nigeria and many other African countries are far behind in this emerging revolution. Hence the need for them to speed up and develop skill and man power needed to join in the tech inclined development.

The co-founders of Awarri AI, Silas Adekunle and Eniola Edun are already in Lagos, working assiduously in making sure the country does not miss out and is fast keying in into the next phase of human development. They just secured a partnership with SAIL Innovation Lab in Ikorodu where they have gainfully employed 100 youths who proudly products of the centre. They have started working on the foundational base which would make AI integration possible and effective in the county.

During his presentation at the unveiling ceremony of Awarri AI at the SAIL Innovation Lab few weeks ago in Ikorodu, Silas Adekunle, the world renowned Nigerian inventor and technology entrepreneur known for creating the world’s first intelligent gaming robot, revealed why they decided to start their AI revolution back home.   “I’m very excited along with my co-founder, Eniola, to share with you some of what we’re doing at Awarri. And before we start, who is Awarri?  Awari is the first AI company in Nigeria with a mission to enable the development and adoption of frontier technology, almost advanced technology on this planet, right here in Nigeria.

“We started our research and development projects a few days ago. And we started on the foundation of the great work that’s being done here already. We met a hundred people that have gone through the program, through the senator’s program. The quality we met on the ground was very high. It was the best. So what we’re now doing is in line with the Honourable Minister’s strategy to create jobs. We have economic empowerment in Nigeria. Commending the newly recruited hands, Adekunle rated them highly saying they are fast learning the basis of AI:

“These people have gone through this training program. And the quality was very high. It was the most engaging. Most people that have gone through this programme now, they’re fully employed, developing technology that is world class. And so why are we doing this? A lot of people might have heard about artificial intelligence.

He went further to describe the many potentials of AI and the need for Nigeria and the rest of Africa to fit it in order not to miss out completely in what he described as the “next step of human story”. He also gave insight on how AI technology works. He said:

“It is the most potent, most powerful technology in the world right now. And it’s the next step in the human story. And if anyone’s had a chat about GPT, one of the strongest, if you go today and ask for chatGPT to tell you about the US, to generate the image of the US, you get lots of images of many states and the story of their culture.

“If you ask for it to generate an image for Nigeria, it’s a bit generic. If you ask it to generate an image of Amala, it actually breaks down. It does not have any context on Nigerian culture or some of the things that we do. And so it’s important that A, because artificial intelligence is going to be the source, it’s already the biggest source of information right now, and it’s going to continue to be that we have representation in the data and for the economic empowerment as well, that we have our people building technology that can also help not just Nigeria, but the development of Africa as well.

“And so that’s why we’re excited about what we’re doing here today. There’s a reason why we called the company Awarri right from the scratch. We knew that there was a lot to be found already. All we have to do is see and start that journey.

“And we can see all of the energy behind us as we embark on this journey and we know that we’re going to find what is already guaranteed for us. So, thank you once again for being here with us today.
