The rain finally stayed away from SW19 on Thursday and we were duly delivered a sensational day of action at Wimbledon, where the British players stole the show.
Katie Boulter into the second round despite s second-set wobble, while Liam Broady provided arguably the upset of the championships so far in beating fourth seed Casper Ruud in five sets.
Late on Centre Court it was all about Andy Murray, who looked destined to join his compatriots in the third-round only for his match against Stefanos Tsitipas to be halted after the third set. That match will be completed this afternoon, with the Scot two sets to one up over the Greek fifth seed.
Elsewhere on day four, there were wins for defending champion Elena Rybakina, Alexander Zverev, Jess Pegula and Andrey Rublev. Stan Wawrinka was a popular winner on No 3 Court and now sets up a mouthwatering third-round clash against Novak Djokovic.
That clash is the headline act on Centre Court this evening, after the No 1 seeds in both the men’s and women’s draws strut their stuff on the most famous court in the game.
Carlos Alcaraz gets us underway at 1.30, Alexandre Muller the man charged with halting the seeming unstoppable progress of tennis’s 20-year-old sensation. The completion of Murray’s match will come after that before Iga Swiatek faces Petra Martic of Croatia.
Swiatek has never got beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon but appears in a mood to blow that record out of the water this year, having dropped just six games in her two straight-set wins so far.
Cam Norrie is second on No 1 Court this afternoon and faces American Christopher Eubanks, while Ons Jabeur, Danil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner are also in action.
It will also be worth keeping a close eye on Court 17 later this afternoon, where mixed-doubles pair and real-life couple Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur get underway against John Peers and Storm Hunter.
