Two adults are in police custody following a carjacking near one of Windsor’s oldest cemeteries.
Shortly after 6 p.m. on May 5, Windsor police officers responded to a report of a vehicle robbery on Ellis Street East just east of Howard Avenue. That’s by Windsor Grove Cemetery.

Through investigation, police learned that two suspects opened the doors of an occupied vehicle and ordered the driver to get out. One of the suspects brandished a folding pocketknife, police said.

A male suspect tried to cut through the driver’s seatbelt, police said. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle uninjured.
The suspects fled the area with the person’s wallet and cellphone in the vehicle. They then made purchases with a stollen credit card.
Two adults, one age 32 and the other age 22, were arrested in the Durham region on Thursday and taken back to Windsor.
Both suspects are charged with robbery with an offensive weapon. One was also charged with two counts of breaching probation, and the other was charged with four counts of possession and use of a credit card obtained by an offence.

Separately, Windsor police are inviting the public to celebrate Police Week from May 12 to 18. The week-long event recognizes the work of frontline officers, 911 communicators, professional civilian and auxiliary members, and special constables.
To mark the occasion, Windsor police and other law enforcement partners will host educational and equipment displays at Devonshire Mall on May 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
