Tacos and tequila are the essential ingredients of any fiesta, according to Adriano Ciotoli of WindsorEats, and that sentiment rang true this past weekend during their Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

Ciotoli estimates more than 2,000 people came out to indulge in Mexican culture and cuisine over the course of the three-day party spanning May 3 to 5 at the WindsorEats Food Hall.

The most popular drink of choice: margaritas.

Ciotoli said he was shocked at the nearly 1,000 tangy, salt-rimmed drinks that were sold.

Fiesta-goers danced, ate, and drank their way through the weekend.

Three food trucks on the WindsorEats patio — Rico Taco, Frylicious, and Kaeru Snack Bar — offered various renditions of beloved Mexican dishes.

The menu featured an array of taco varieties including carnitas and birria, and also elotes — Mexican street corn.

Ciotoli said “some authentic Latin Bands” were brought in from the Leamington area to “set the tone and the atmosphere. It got people up and dancing, and really made it a celebration. People were having fun and forgetting about any worries that had for a bit.”

The weekend’s music lineup featured performances by the Sabor Latino Band, Julian Rodriguez, Grupo Diamante Latin Band, as well as the acoustic Spanish guitar sounds of Transeo.

“There was a lot of dancing happening,” Ciotoli said.

“From conga lines, to the Macarena, to salsa dancing, people were just getting up and enjoying themselves.”
