In an unusual incident, Digapahandi police seized the half-burnt body of a woman who along with her husband allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison at Goutami village under Sadar Police limits in Berhampur on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the husband of the deceased, identified as S Mukund Dora, has been admitted to Berhampur Hospital in critical condition.
As per the local residents, Mukund’s son has been at large after duping several people of the locality of lakhs of rupees by assuring them to provide jobs. The duped persons were visiting Mukund’s house on a daily basis to get their money back.
Mukund and his wife were reportedly under tremendous pressure due to the development. There used to be frequent altercations between them for the last few days. Local residents suspected the couple might have committed suicide due to the reason. However, the exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.
On being informed, police reached the cremation ground, seized the woman’s half-burnt body and sent it for post-mortem. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway. According to police sources, further details into the incident could be divulged after the post-mortem of the body.
