NAGPUR: A 32-year-old woman who had approached
Nagpur bench
of
Bombay high court
with a plea to allow her to terminate a 22-week pregnancy changed her mind after a medical report revealed the fetus was fully developed and may result in
live birth
, reported.
On the woman’s application, HC had ordered her medical examination to assess if MTP could be allowed.
The medical report highlighted the increased risk of complications associated with aborting a 22-week fetus. The petitioner’s counsel argued that when the woman initially sought termination of her pregnancy, the fetus was 14-16 weeks old, but the hospital did not entertain her request in time.
In her plea, the woman alleged that the accused married her and established physical relationship with her by deceit – by hiding his first marriage – and sexually exploited her for nearly three years. The petitioner submitted that she already had a 13-month-old child from the accused, and considering that he had left her staring at an uncertain future, she was not willing to bring another child into the world.
