A woman who was a customer waiting inside the office of an insurance company was shot in the chest by a male relative who also murdered a man outside the business place yesterday morning.
The 47-year-old woman was rushed to hospital, while Rosario “Danny” Ramdhan, who was shot during a carjacking after the man walked into the car park, died near the scene. The woman was in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital last night.
The incident occurred around 9.50 a.m. at Cross Crossing Shopping Centre, San Fernando.
The 47-year-old woman was inside General Accident Insurance Company when the gunman entered and shot her in the chest, to the horror of employees.
Outside in the car park, Ramdhan, 24, of Claxton Bay, was in a Nissan Tiida with a friend when the gun-toting man approached him after shooting the woman. There was a scuffle between the gunman and the friend, during which Ramdhan was shot.
Ramdhan ran a short distance before he collapsed and died. The friend was uninjured. The shooter drove off in the Tiida.
The suspect, who was last night identified as Sharaz Ageemolah, was found dead at Arjoonsingh Drive, Bamboo Village, La Romaine. He had apparently taken his own life.
The Express was told that Ramdhan and his friend had gone to pay insurance fees and were not affiliated with the shot woman whose name was withheld by homicide officers for security reasons. Police officers took charge of two vehicles which remained in the car park of the shopping centre following the shootings.
Ramdhan’s father, Ramnarine Ramdhan, who arrived on the scene, described the crime situation in this country as unbearable. In a brief interview with reporters, he said his son was a quiet and cool person who had plans to migrate.
Ramdhan’s girlfriend was inconsolable and screamed out his name several times as she cried. Soon after she arrived, she was lifted and carried away by those with whom she had come to the scene.
Officers from Homicide Region 3 are continuing investigations.
