President Yoon Suk-yeol on Tuesday addressed the Bureau International des Expositions’ general assembly in Paris pitching Busan’s bid to host the World Expo 2030.
Speaking to the 179 member nations in English, Yoon said, “Busan is a gateway to the Eurasian continent.”
Yoon was the last speaker in Busan’s presentation and highlighted giving back to the international community and solidarity. He said the expo will be a “solutions platform addressing humanity’s complex and urgent challenges” while creating opportunities for businesses to meet.
“Thanks to the help of the international community, Korea transformed itself into an economic powerhouse full of high-tech industries and innovative technologies,” he said, citing Korea’s experience of hosting both the summer and winter Olympics and the football World Cup.
Rapper Psy of global “Gangnam Style” fame was the first speaker, and recorded clips were played from Karina of girl band Aespa and soprano Sumi Jo.
Riyadh and Rome also delivered their rival presentations. The BIE will vote in November after the candidates deliver their fifth and final presentations.
