One of the UK’s quirkiest holiday homes is a life-sized wooden beehive nestled in the woodland of Okehampton, Devon. The three-story hive, which has been decorated with a variety of reclaimed materials, is buzzing with character and offers couples, or two friends, a unique staycation experience

Guests can immerse themselves in nature by taking a dip in Humble Bee’s private outdoor bath or spend the afternoon relaxing in the sunken hot tub, which is burrowed among the trees and offers a spot to relax listening to the sounds of local birds and woodland wildlife.

The hive’s living area can be accessed via a winding staircase and is complete with a honeycomb feature wall, coal-effect wood-burning stove, and plush furnishings. On the top floor, a king-size bed dressed in thick furs and fairy lights awaits holidaymakers, with light-filled windows to gaze down at the woodland below.

The market town of Okehampton is within walking distance and home to a plethora of shops for stocking up on essentials, as well as eateries, pubs, and the independent shops and galleries of the Victorian Arcade, which was originally erected in 1896.

Okehampton lies on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, renowned for its wild, open moorlands and deep river valleys. There is a wealth of scenery to take in on one of the many walking trails or couples can take an evening stroll to see the summer sunset before heading back to the hive.

History buffs can visit Okehampton Castle, the oldest castle in Devon, or the Museum of Dartmoor Life, which houses a vast collection of objects collected from the Bronze Age through to the mid-20th Century.

Roadford Lake can also be found nearby and has a wide range of activities available, including paddleboarding, canoeing, and archery. Cyclists can try popular cycling routes The Granite Way and Route 27, both of which run through rural Devon and provide memorable views of the surrounding scenery.
