Although Black Friday falls on Nov. 24 this year, retailers have already been releasing early deals. Here’s why you probably should be shopping these early sales this year if you aren’t already—and have a plan so you don’t overspend. Retailers are extending their sales to start earlier and go beyond the designated day after Thanksgiving in attempts to take advantage of the increasingly popular shopping event, which reached 197 million consumers in 2022.

Black Friday crept into Thanksgiving Day over the years in order for retailers to beat their competition. Now that a lot of shopping is done online, the lines of when Black Friday sales start have become even more blurred. Best Buy was the first major retailer to release its Black Friday plan of attack, followed by Amazon and Target. Here’s everything you need to know about Black Friday this year, including where you can find the best deals already and what you should be buying.

Black Friday is a great time to buy TVs and tech products

When it comes to the “best shopping day” of the year, it’s always going to be either Prime Day or Black Friday. Which one is better will depend on what you’re in the market for. Prime Day is an Amazon shopping day (although major retailers also compete), so you’ll see Amazon brands having the best discounts then. Any business can take part in Black Friday sales, which means more competition and better prices on all sorts of different products.

As for Black Friday, TVs and Google and Apple products will see big discounts. Many new TV models are released in January, so retailers try to clear out their stock on Black Friday. Apple and Google have their product releases in the fall; accordingly, their older products get additional discounts on Black Friday. However, Black Friday is a much broader shopping day than Prime Day, and you can expect deals online and in-store, mainly on electronics, clothes, and tools.

Best early Black Friday deals

It’s the usual big players—keep an eye on these stores for big deals:

Amazon: The biggest retailer in the world started their early Black Friday deals early (or perhaps just elongated their October Prime Day sales). You can find great deals on TVs, Roomba robot vacuums, and Amazon products like Ring doorbells for up to 50% off.Best Buy: The first major retailer to announce their Black Friday plans and kick off their sale this year was Best Buy. If you’re looking for TVs, laptops, or soundbars, you’ll find great options and prices at Best Buy. Their loyalty members get extra discounts on some of their deals—but keep in mind they’re changing their price-matching and return policies for the holiday season.
Target: Target announced their Black Friday plans Oct. 27 with four weeks of deals refreshing every Sunday leading up to Black Friday. You can find deals on headphones, video games, and stick vacuums up to 50% off. They are also price-matching from select major retailers. Walmart: Walmart has yet to officially announce their Black Friday plans, but they’ve been teasing that one is soon to come, according to Mashable. eBay: If you’re looking for refurbished or used products with big discounts, check out eBay deals. They usually release discounts, promo codes, and other deals during Black Friday and other major holidays.Macy’s: For those looking to shop for some clothes, Macy’s Black Friday Early Access sale kicks off Nov. 10, and their official Black Friday sale on Nov. 19. You can already see some deals that will be live on their website.

All of these major retailers have loyalty reward programs that you can sign up for prior to Black Friday to take advantage of perks like extra discounts, early shopping, or free shipping. Make sure to use price-checking tools to make sure you’re actually getting a good deal.
