Although Stuff Your Kindle Day is probably the most popular free e-book event of the year, it’s not the only one. Cozy Mystery Book Blast, one of the many smaller e-book giveaway events throughout the year, is happening this Thursday, Jan. 25. If you’re reading this after the 25, know that some authors leave their books available past the event.
What is the Cozy Mystery Book Blast event?
The Cozy Mystery Book Blast event, like other smaller free e-book events, is one of the many times of the year when authors share their e-books for free. You can think of it as a Stuff Your Kindle Day, but only for mystery and mystery-adjacent books. Most authors partaking are indie or relatively new. These events are usually run by book blogs, in this case, the Cozy Mystery Book Club.

There’s a Kindle out there for every type of reader:

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite: starts at $139.99
Amazon Kindle Oasis: $249.99 (without ads)
Amazon Kindle Scribe: starts at $339.99
How to get free e-books
Like Stuff Your Kindle Day, these types of events are not necessarily only for Kindle readers. Any type of e-reader will do. In fact, most of these can be read on your phone, laptop, or tablet. The free e-books are sorted into three categories, and you can see the full list of e-books when you click on them:
Contemporary Cozies
Historical Cozies
Paranormal Cozies
Once you see the list of books, you’ll see a short synopsis of the e-book and then all the options on how you can download it. You can see the synopsis and the download options from the screenshot below.

Once you have an e-book you like, the steps to getting the e-book are very similar to Stuff Your Kindle Day. If you choose Amazon, follow these instructions:
If you chose Amazon as your retailer, make sure you’re not being redirected to the phone application because you won’t see the free book option; instead, use the web browser Amazon page (or just do it on your computer). Also, make sure you’re not clicking the Kindle Unlimited ”read for free” button, as that will direct you to start a Kindle Unlimited subscription; instead, click the “buy now for free” button to send the book directly to the Kindle linked to your account.
You’ll know you did it right when you see a “Thanks, [your name]!” order summary saying the e-book is being auto-delivered to the Kindle Cloud Reader. Click the“Read now in Kindle Cloud Reader” button on the order summary to start reading your e-book.
For these kinds of events, it’s not rare to see some listed early and be left past the day of the event. Once you download the e-book this way, it’ll be yours to keep for good.
