The 2023 Pro Motocross season took on a decidedly different flavor as it visited Mount Morris, Pennsylvania on Father’s Day weekend. In the 450 class, Ken Roczen stepped up to the plate to see if he could place a detour in Jet Lawrence’s road to the championship. He made an excellent showing and now is the only rider to lead laps in the 450 class aside from Lawrence. Jett Lawrence’s perfect season, however, is still intact. Heavy rainfall before practice also presented a complication, making it essential to get a good lap time in the first qualifying session, as conditions deteriorated as the morning progressed. Roczen did just that, setting a blazing time while Lawrence had a session that was interrupted by minor crashes. In the 250 class, it was Justin Cooper’s turn to crash in qualifying, while his teammate Haiden Deegan set the fastest time. The moto scores in the 250 class looked much as they have in the opening rounds of the season, with Hunter Lawrence scoring the overall with a 3-1 score. 450 MOTO 1
Jett Lawrence got the holeshot with Ken Roczen about fifth. Very quickly, Roczen got into second and attempted to chase down Lawrence. It seemed whenever he made a little progress, Lawrence would respond and maintain a 4-second gap. Garrett Marchbanks did a good job of keeping up, but the rest of the field gradually fell behind. Just after the mid-way point, Lawrence fell, which allowed Roczen and Marchbanks to get by. He quickly repassed Marchbanks, but it took several laps before he caught up to Roczen. Then the two of them battled. At one point, Lawrence passed Roczen, who came right back and retook the lead a few turns later. Eventually, Lawrence took the lead for good. Roczen remained within a couple of seconds until he fell on the final lap. He struggled to get his Suzuki started again, and was forced to accept 7th place.
450 MOTO 2
Ken Roczen got the moto two holeshot with Jett Lawrence around fifth. Adam Cianciarulo was second and looked capable of running the pace up front. Nontheless, Lawrence passed Cianciarulo on the ninth lap, and then took the lead away from Roczen shortly afterward. The results were scrambled enough to give Roczen second overall despite his seventh-place finish in moto one.

250 CLASS
250 MOTO 1
The first 250 moto saw a muddy, rutted nightmare of a track. RJ Hampshire got the start with Jo Shimoda in second. Shimoda went down in the second turn, creating a massive pile-up that captured series point leader Hunter Lawrence. Haiden Deegan and Jalek Swoll battled for a few laps before Deegan broke free. As the race progressed, Lawrence made good time coming through the pack and Deegan kept sight of Hampshire. Then Hampshire went down and handed the lead to Deegan. that set up a dramatic battle to the finish. Hampshire managed to retake the lead on the last lap. Lawrence also passed Swoll for third at the very end.
250 MOTO 2
As we have seen so often this year, the favorites from moto one were in trouble immediately in moto two. Haiden Deegan went down in the first turn, then RJ Hampshire crashed into Jake Swoll in the second turn. Up front, Levi Kitchen got the holeshot with Chance Hymas in pursuit. Hunter Lawrence was around seventh place at first, and he slowly started picking off riders as he made his way to the front. It took him six laps to take the lead, which he took from his teammate Hymas. Shimoda stared mid pack and eventually finished third behind Tom Vialle. Deegan and Hampshire followed each other through the pack to finish sixth and seventh, respectively.
