Adebayo, Madueke trade goals as Luton Town and Chelsea serve five-goal thriller in Bedfordshire

The two Nigeria-eligible forwards were among the goal scorers as the Blues survived a late scare on Kenilworth Road

Elijah Adebayo and Noni Madueke were among the goals as Chelsea claimed a 3-2 victory over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in Bedfordshire in their early lunchtime Premier League kickoff on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Adebayo scored his fifth Premier League goal and had another ruled out as Luton staged a remarkable comeback from three goals down but ultimately failed to find the equaliser their display deserved.

Cole Palmer gave Chelsea the lead in the 12th minute, and the youngster turned provider for Madueke to double the visitors’ advantage following a brilliant counter-attack eight minutes before halftime.

The afternoon got even more comfortable for Chelsea as Palmer grabbed his second goal of the encounter and his side’s third in the 79th minute.

Luton had shown a lot of heart in recent weeks, picking up some valuable points against tough opponents.

And the home fans had something to cheer when Adebayo got the ball into the net, only for the VAR to cancel the strike for offside.

Minutes later, Adebayo saw his header come off the crossbar, but Luton finally had their goal when former Chelsea schoolboy Ross Barkley headed home in the 80th minute.

Adebayo finally got his goal in the 87th minute after he was quick to a loose ball in the area following a decent save from goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

The goal set off a frantic finish with Luton pushing for a late equaliser, but it never arrived as Chelsea, without convincing many, left Bedfordshire with the win and all three points.
