The fight is quite controversial given the chaos that ensued prior to its finalization. Haney was originally slated to fight Shakur Stevenson in the lightweight division. However, he preferred moving up a weight class, dodging the mandated defense to meet Prograis. However, The Prograis fight too on multiple occasions landed in trouble owing to date issues. The boxing realm is not exactly kind toward Haney after the stunt he’s pulled ahead of his big fight. However, his impeccable boxing skills are something that cannot be diminished. A video of him taking on the heavy bag mirrored the prowess he boasts of. But fans looked beyond his skills into the affairs of his conduct in boxing.
The Regis Prograis fight comes in the wake of a controversial win that Haney scored against Vasyl Lomachenko. Haney registered a unanimous decision victory that most thought was a match dominated by Loma. When the fight ended, the latter wanted a rematch. However, Haney did not seem too keen on it. A fan cited his disinterest in fighting Loma. They wrote, “Don’t care… ducked the rematch with loma and ducked Shakur.”

Another fan was however in favor of Haney. And in early predictions saw him dominate ‘Rougarou’. They wrote, “He’s gonna take away Regis strengths and make him fight a technical fight . UD DEVIN”
Apart from the ‘Sugar’ and Loma fight, the boxing world has also rallied for a Haney fight against Gervonta Davis. Yet again, there has been no progress on this front. A fan suggested that the fighter would not beat ‘Tank’. Hence, even if he won Regis’ belt, there would be no point in it. They commented, “You can’t beat tank all this don’t mean nothing belts collect dust.”
Then came a fan who stated that Haney looked like a welterweight. They questioned why he still was fighting in the lower weight classes. They wrote, “How is this guy fighting 135 pounders? looks like a full welterweight.”
A true Haney fan refuted the attacks on the fighter. They too predicted the win in his favor. The fan suggested that his haters were not happy about him inching toward victory. They said, “I expect haney to win and all the haney haters so mad he out boxed em but didn’t knock em out.”
Only on fight night will we know if Haney’s bold claims to defeat Prograis will cometrue. But one thing that this fight promises him is the big bucks.
How much will Haney get after he goes up a weight class?
As per reporter, Michael Benson, ‘The Dream’ Haney will come back significantly richer than he is from the Prograis fight. The journalist reported, “Devin Haney has revealed that he’s set to earn a purse of $6 million for his fight vs Regis Prograis on Dec 9th.” Ahead of the fight, multiple folks including Rougraou had opined that the reason Haney chose to fight the latter was money. They suggested that a fight as such would offer him what he’s never been offered before.

Regis even said, “You know, he had all the belts and when you have all the belts, you have a lot of different options with what you can do. And, obviously, he wanted the biggest fight with the biggest amount of money, and I think that was with me. I think the biggest amount of money was coming to fight me.”
The fight is being promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom and poses to be one of the biggest fights of this year. DAZN has come forward as its PPV partner and will broadcast the fight through its periodic subscriptions. Slated to be one of the last fights of the year, Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis will define how the lightweight and super lightweight classes navigate in the next year to come.
