Saturday marked the first time in over one year that Tyler Adams started an English Premier League match and while some players might have been a little rusty on the field, the U.S. men’s national team captain shined in AFC Bournemouth’s midfield.
Adams returned to club action on Saturday, logging 90 minutes in a 2-1 home win for the Cherries over Everton. The 24-year-old earned Man of the Match honors for Bournemouth, showing glimpses of his best once again.
Bournemouth’s late own goal at the Vitality Stadium proved to be the winner against the visiting Toffees. Adams was strong in midfield, winning nine of 12 duels, completing the most passes (39) out of any player, and completing three tackles.
After lifting the CONCACAF Nations League title earlier this month, Adams now has nine final matches before a busy summer schedule.
Bournemouth sits 16 points clear of the relegation zone following Saturday’s win and are sitting pretty to remain in the Premier League for another season.
Here is a look at some of the other top Americans Abroad performers from this past week:
Haji Wright
The goals continue to come for Haji Wright.
After scoring twice on international duty with the USMNT, Wright found the back of the net in his return to league play. Coventry City earned a 3-1 road win over Huddersfield Town as Wright scored the final goal of the match.
He now has 16 goals across all competitions for the Sky Blues and still has two potential chances to lift a trophy by season’s end.
Josh Sargent
Norwich City’s quest to reach the promotion playoffs continued Friday with Josh Sargent scoring yet again.
Sargent helped spring a comeback 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle, netting his 14th league goal of the season. Despite missing out on international duty, Sargent’s stellar form has continued in David Wagner’s squad this spring.
Norwich City will certainly push for more goals from Sargent if it wants to finish in the top-six.
Folarin Balogun
It was a needed return to action for Folarin Balogun this past weekend.
Balogun scored twice off the bench in AS Monaco’s 5-2 road win over Metz. After a quiet USMNT window, Balogun took his goal tally to eight in domestic action after coming off the bench and delivering in a crucial league win.
Balogun will try and build off his Saturday performance as AS Monaco pushes for a top-four finish.
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Celtic heads into its latest Glasgow Derby clash top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Cameron Carter-Vickers delivered a strong shift as Celtic defeated Livingston 3-0 on Easter Sunday. Carter-Vickers logged 90 minutes, helping keep the hosts off the scoreboard and also move Celtic one point clear of rivals Rangers in the table.
Carter-Vickers will be fighting for a strong end to the season, especially with Copa America aspirations this summer.
