Hoffenheim’s winning run came to an end last weekend against Borussia Dortmund and now the focus for John Brooks and his teammates will be to rebound ahead of the October international break.
Brooks has remained a stalwart in Pellegrino Matarazzo’s backline this season, logging 90 minutes in four of his six Bundesliga starts. The veteran centerback will be pushing to not only lead Hoffenheim past Werder Bremen on Saturday, but also force his way back into the U.S. men’s national team picture later this fall. Brooks, 30, has helped Hoffenheim to four victories in six league matches to date, which has them sitting in sixth place so far.
Hoffenheim is unbeaten in its last five trips to Werder Bremen and will be favored to extend that streak this weekend.
In Italy, Tim Weah, Weston McKennie and Juventus host rivals Torino. Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and AC Milan face Genoa.
Elsewhere in Germany, Brenden Aaronson and Gio Reyna go head-to-head in Bundesliga action.
In England, Antonee Robinson, Tim Ream and Fulham host Sheffield United. Matt Turner and Nottingham Forest seek three points at Crystal Palace.
