Amid Desperate Times for Michael Jordan’s NASCAR Team, Controversial Insider Willing to Gamble on Tyler Reddick

Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s co-owned 23XI Racing team has mostly slumped this season. Fielding the #23 and #45 cars full-time with Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick behind the wheels respectively, the 23XI Racing team has only managed to score one win this season. Before the start of the 2023 season, Denny Hamlin had expressed high hopes for his team, but with the regular season nearing its end, the drivers have yet to churn out the desired results.

The Crayon 301 Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway witnessed Joe Gibbs Racing’s #19 driver, Martin Truex Jr drive down Loudon’s Victory Lane. Although successfully ending his 17-year-long NHMS drought, Truex Jr stepped into the spotlight for a different reason altogether. As teammate Christopher Bell crashed during the final laps of the Crayon 301, Martin Truex Jr went on a rant saying, “We should have a company policy that says when one of your teammates is leading, don’t crash by yourself”.

The recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast was centered around Martin Truex Jr’s New Hampshire rant and Kaulig Racing spotter Brett Griffin had a lot to say on the matter. Pointing out how it’s common news to hear the Next Gen car’s crashing after losing traction, the controversial spotter even mentioned how 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick was an exception. “We hear about these cars all the time, like once they step out you’re already wrecking. Tyler Reddick proves that theory pretty wrong. I see him making saves every week on TV. You’re like ‘Wow! What a save Tyler Reddick!’ If you went through and said this guy, who has the most saves this year, I’m willing to bet you it’s Tyler, Griffin said, willing to gamble on the 23XI #45 driver.

While Brett Griffin banks on Tyler Reddick for the most saves this season, the #45 driver’s maiden season at the 23XI Racing camp is far from satisfactory.

How has Tyler Reddick performed this season?

Jumping over to 23XI Racing for the 2023 season, Tyler Reddick hoped to turn around his luck, but the start of the 2023 season spelled disaster for the #45 23XI Racing driver. Crashing out during the Daytona 500, Reddick earned his first DNF of the season. The 2023 Pala Casino 400 was no different, as Tyler Reddick once again crashed out, earning 2 DNFs in two races.

For some time, it looked like the 23XI Racing star’s luck was changing as he slowly progressed up the leaderboards with seven top-10 finishes and one race win at COTA. But come the Enjoy Illinois 300 at Gateway, Tyler Reddick’s luck ran after a crash saw him bow out of the race with his 3rd DNF of the 2023 season. Finishing in 6th place at the Crayon 301 in New Hampshire, Tyler Reddick now sits in the 13th position on NASCAR’s regular-season championship standings.
