After nine grueling months at USC, Bronny James is opting for a change of scenery. But there is still a question mark on where he will head next. As per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, one of Bronny’s “prominent considerations” is Duquesne, given LeBron James’ ties to the current head coach. Duquesne recently promoted Dru Joyce III, a former teammate and friend of James from Akron, to the head coach position, replacing Keith Dambrot, who trained LeBron during his high school days. However, Bronny could also potentially find himself with the UConn Huskies.
Recently, the UConn Huskies head coach, Dan Hurley, appeared on JJ Redick’s podcast, The Old Man and The Three, to discuss how he and the staff built the Huskie offense. LeBron James took notice of the snippet posted on social media and replied, “He’s so DAMN GOOD!!! Along with his staff. Super creative with their O! Love it.”

Dan Hurley led the team to their back-to-back NCAA championship last week. With Bronny’s looming transfer portal decision, it is possible that the James family could consider the University of Connecticut for his sophomore season.
It is no secret that James’ freshman year at USC did not go according to plan. The 19-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest in the preseason and was sidelined for almost five months. Adding to his woes, USC mostly played him at the wing position rather than the point guard position, where he excelled in high school. As a result, he finished his first season with underwhelming averages of 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Soon after closing his freshman season, Bronny James declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, while also maintaining his college eligibility and entering the transfer portal.

While his season averages have been less-than-stellar, he did showcase flashes of brilliance, particularly on the defensive end. Moreover, not only did the USC Trojans have returning guard Boogie Ellis dominating the ball, but they also had presumed 2024 first-round draft pick Isaiah Collier as the team’s starting point guard. This essentially relegated James to the bench as the third guard, who mostly floated along the perimeter.
Therefore, according to veteran analyst Brian Windhorst, “The people I talk to are saying, they didn’t get to see him play his real position. I think he would really benefit from another year in college, especially as he is one of the highest paid NIL guys in all of college sports.”
