Three years after selecting him with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft, the Timberwolves have reaffirmed their belief in Anthony Edwards. This time, it was in the form of a maximum contract extension.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania has reported that Edwards and the Wolves are finalizing a five-year maximum contract extension that could be worth as much as $260 million. Edwards joins draft classmates LaMelo Ball and Tyrese Haliburton, who recently inked maximum deals with their respective teams.
At just 21 years old, Edwards has quickly ascended to stardom with the Timberwolves. He is coming off of a season in which he averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game, earning the first All-Star selection of his career in the process.
Since drafting Edwards in 2020, Minnesota has made two playoff appearances after earning wins in the 2022 and 2023 Play-In Tournaments. The extension kicks off a big summer for Edwards, who is reportedly set to represent Team USA at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in August.
