Copa America holders and reigning world champions Argentina will play Canada in the semifinals of the Copa America at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Tuesday.
Both teams faced each other in their tournament opener on June 20 in Atlanta, with Argentina edging out a competitive 2-0 win over Canada.
From there, La Albiceleste took care of business with convincing wins over Chile and Peru to advance to the knockout round with a perfect record. However, they just about escaped what was a potential quarterfinal banana skin last week as they eventually secured a nail-biting penalty-shootout victory against Ecuador following a 1-1 draw.
That drama was matched by Canada, who sealed a 4-3 penalty shootout win over red-hot Venezuela after the 90-minute game finished 1-1, to set up this semifinal showdown on July 9 in New Jersey.

Lionel Messi was sensational against Canada to open the tournament, then decent against Chile before missing the group game against Peru through injury. He was not at his best against Ecuador and was the only Argentine player to miss his penalty shot during the deciding shootout, but we will surely see a better version of the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner in this rematch against Canada.
