The player in question is Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
Liverpool have been linked heavily with the Belgian in recent weeks as they look to complete their midfield rebuild.
Alexis Mac Alister and Dominik Szoboszlai were early additions through the door at Anfield this summer and both should improve the Reds’ midfield.
However, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho potentially heading to Saudi Arabia this summer, Liverpool may need a third midfielder, and preferably one who can operate in the deepest role of Liverpool’s three-man midfield.
And as Szoboszlai and Mac Alister are not really known for this, it makes sense for Liverpool to be targeting the recently-relegated Lavia.
Now though, The Liverpool Echo reports that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is preparing a new bid for the Belgian midfielder, especially as Thomas Partey looks to be on the verge of leaving for the Saudi Pro League.
Reports suggested that Lavia will come with a price tag of £45m, but if Southampton know they can start a bidding war between two top clubs, someone way end up paying a higher fee.
