Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and club director of football Edu Gaspar may have entered the selling phase of the Gunners’ summer transfer window, but links still persist with potential business later on before the conclusion of the transfer period, with Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus still reportedly on the club’s shortlist.
The 22-year-old versatile AFC Ajax attacking outlet is coming off a much-improved 2022-23 Eredivisie campaign with De Godenzonen after first struggling to adapt to the Dutch giants in the wake of his move from Danish development house Nordsjælland. Across 42 appearances in all competitions last season, Kudus bagged 18 goals for the club, including four in six Champions League appearances.
Much of the interest in Kudus began to bubble to the surface during last season’s international break when the Accra-born attacker shone for his country during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, and Liverpool all having been previously linked to him at different points since then.
As it becomes more clear that Arsenal is ramping up to jettison a handful of the senior squad, including possible departures for Folarin Balogun and Nicolas Pépé and in conjunction with reports suggesting that Arsenal is still in the market to add another name to the forward line, Kudus’ versatility fits the bill.
Last season for Ajax saw Kudus largely deployed at both right-wing as well as center-forward, but the youngster is also quite capable through the middle as a mobile 8/10. But given the current options at the club in central areas and minimal current rotation behind Bukayo Saka on the right, interest in Kudus could certainly be tied to that area of the pitch.
