Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has, on Sunday, spoken out over the Gunners’ transfer efforts across the summer to date.
The subject of incomings, of course, has taken its place centre stage in the headlines on the red half of north London over the course of the last 48 hours.
This comes after Edu Gaspar and co. managed to push not one, but two high-profile deals over the line.
First through the door was Ajax standout Jurrien Timber, just the latest addition to an increasingly impressive crop of central defensive options at the disposal of Mikel Arteta.
And next up was Declan Rice, whose record-breaking arrival from West Ham United marked yet another signal of intent from a club with sights evidently set on overthrowing Manchester City as English football’s dominant force.
Add to this the prior arrival of Kai Havertz last month, and Arteta’s squad has been reinforced in stellar fashion, right through its spine.
Speaking to Eurosport earlier today, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Arsenal’s productive summer was put to legendary Gunners tactician, Arsene Wenger.
And the Frenchman was quick to provide his seal of approval, labelling all three arrivals as ‘good buys’:
“I think it is a good investment. Overall, personally I think they have made good buys as they are players who are now mature, 23,24, and still young so can stay together for a few years.
“They will be under more pressure after last year, but they have learned a lot and they can show they can deal with that pressure now.”
From here, Wenger was also drawn on his thoughts on next season’s Premier League title race.
And the 73-year-old is in no two minds regarding the subject, adamant that his former club are the favourites to lift the title:
“I believe we will win the championship, it is as simple as that. I have less doubts for Arsenal than the cycling today.”
