Everything’s bigger in Texas. This year, that extends to the playoff games.
For the first time, all ALCS games will be played deep in the heart of Texas, with the Astros and Rangers emerging from their division series as the winners.
Much of the 2023 season has been about the Astros vs. the Rangers. The race for the AL West title came down to the final day of the season, with the Astros securing the title only after the Mariners beat Texas on the final day to drop the two to even records, giving Houston the tiebreaking edge.
During the regular season, these teams met up 13 times, with the Astros largely dominating the series, winning nine of the games — including a September sweep in Arlington — and outscoring the Rangers 93-74.

The ALCS matchup also places teams with opposite postseason success against one another. Both franchises have been around for nearly the same amount of time, with Houston having been founded in 1962 as the Colt .45s and the Rangers dating back to 1972 when the Senators moved from Washington to Texas.
In their histories, the Astros have reached the World Series five times, with wins coming in 2017 and 2022. The Rangers, however, have reached the World Series only twice, which came in 2010 and 2011. They lost in the back-to-back World Series, falling first to the Giants and then to the Cardinals.
