Italy’s Beatrice Mallozzi and France’s Antoine Duval have just won the Europe Triathlon Cup Ceuta. In Spain, both Mallozzi and Duval sprinted for the win, which may just make that victory all the better.
The race was over the Sprint Distance, 750 – 20.8 – 5, and after the swim Mallozzi was a bit behind. She struck especially during the run, with a five-kilometer run well under seventeen minutes. She eventually finished in 1:01:44, staying exactly one second ahead of Spain’s Cecilia Santamaria Surroca, who was thus very close to a victory in her own country. Britain’s Hollie Elliott took home the bronze, finishing in a time of 1:02:13.
Also in the men’s race, the differences were incredibly small and they had to fight for every meter. In the end it was Antoine Duval who turned out to be the strongest; he finished in a time of 54:37 and here too he had to sprint for victory. Two seconds after the winner, Portuguese Joao Nuno Batista finished second and, again six seconds behind him, Frenchman Boris Pierre finished third in 54:45.
