Having been honoured with the award of Sportswoman of the Year, Beth Potter was again celebrated recently at the Scottish Sports Awards, as her WTCS Pontevedra winning run was named the “Sporting Moment of the Year”.
Potter, who was recently announced as one of the first two athletes to be selected for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, clinched the world title in the final race of the season at the WTCS Finals in September.
Heading into the Olympic year, the former track star will have high hopes for her second appearance at the Olympic Games, with a medal in both the individual and mixed team relay event on the cards for the Scotswoman.
Potter tops the public vote
In an award that was decided by the public, Commonwealth Games medalist Potter was recognised for her stunning victory at the last race of the season in Pontevedra, which saw her take the world title ahead of French rival Cassandre Beaugrand.
In a wildly successful year for the 32 year old, Potter only missed out on the podium once in an individual event, as she took the tape at WTCS events in Abu Dhabi, Montreal, the Paris Test Event and the Grand Final in Pontevedra.
Also helping Team GB to two podiums at Mixed Team Relay events in Paris and Sunderland, Potter will likely be a valuable member of the quartet racing the event in Paris, as Great Britain seek to defend their title from Tokyo 2020.
Finishing the year as World #1 in all available rankings, Potter beat Beaugrand by just 150 points in the final WTCS rankings, outlasting her rival on the run in Pontevedra in a performance that is rightly being commended as the Scottish Sporting Moment of the Year.
