The Atlanta Braves could use a boost in the starting rotation and could look to make a splash this summer.
The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline will be here before you know it and the Braves likely will be extremely active. Atlanta has had some unfortunate luck this season and is dealing with important injuries, but they still have hope to make a deep playoff run this season.
Atlanta lost Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. but still has plenty of talent on the roster. If it could add a boost to the rotation and maybe another outfielder, the Braves could be in business.
It’s unclear what the Braves will do, but Fox Sports’ Deesha Thosar floated a deal for Chicago White Sox rising star Garrett Crochet.
“I’d love to see the (Baltimore Orioles) go for it by trading for (Luis Robert),” Thosar said. “It’s a move they wouldn’t normally make, but under new ownership could be the type of trade-deadline splash that sets a new standard. As for Crochet, there should be many, many suitors for the hard-throwing left-hander. But it would be exciting if the Braves, known to make eyebrow-raising summer deals, go for him this year, particularly after losing Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. to injury, as a way to announce that they’re not out of this thing just yet.”
Atlanta is one of the most deep teams in baseball and still has a chance to do something special this season. While this is the case, they still should be considering all options this summer and a trade for Crochet could make perfect sense.
