Brentford 2 Newcastle 4 – Sunday 19 May 4pm
Instant fan / writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
Nat Seaton:
‘What a great feeling, winning away in the sun last game of the season.
Really enjoyed the game today, topped off by Bruno scoring our last goal of the season and celebrating in front of us.
We did what we had to do, unfortunately, Chelsea won too and with Man United winning, this victory could be priceless for Europe, we will see what the Cup Final brings…
Seventh place after everything that has happened this season, I think that’s a decent return.
I’m excited at the thought of what may be to come next season.’
GToon:
‘Great result and great team selection too.
Nice to finish above that lot and hopefully get into Europe too.’
Jamie Smith:
‘Good end to an up and down season, despite a wobble when Brentford got it to 3-2, Bruno’s settler was very welcome.
We all hope intently it’s not his last act in a United shirt…
Conference league seems like a decent reward after the midwinter blip, although we now sweat on the cup final to see if our passports will be needed.
Let’s hope Man City don’t go too hard celebrating that title win.’
David Punton:
‘A high scoring affair in the capital as we bag seventh place after this monster of a season ends with (hopefully) a place in the UEFA Conference League.
A stellar first half did the damage before the home side threatened the comeback.
Fitting that Bruno put the seal on it for us and we were able to stick it to Toney and Maupay, who seem to specialise in that of being worky tickets.
Enjoy the summer and we go again in August.
New arrivals needed when the transfer window opens, for sure.’
Tony Mallabar:
‘Last game of a gruelling and long season, whey not likely.
I’ve stated before I am in the privileged position that I have the time and money to go to every game home and away.
Been I great season with lots of high and lows.
So rocking up at the gtech/ busy bee arena, I was somewhat surprised to see Anthony Gordon not making the squad but a much welcome return for Nick Pope and Muckle Joe give us the platform for a comfortable 4-2 victory.
With wor Callum and Miggy getting on later from the bench.
Is that the last of them in black and white???’
Bazoox:
‘Well done to Eddie and the boys for rounding off the season with a high scoring away win.
The game looked over at 0-3 to Newcastle at half-time, but Thomas Frank’s Bees are no pushovers and fought back to 2-3 and my nerves were jangling.
It was our talisman Bruno Guimaraes to the rescue to secure the points when he pumped home our fourth of the afternoon.
We have finished above Man Utd for the first time since 1976/77 when one of my best mates was playing up front for the Toon.
Me and him are happy men tonight and we have one foot in Europe.’
Billy Miller:
‘We’ve finally done it.
We’ve finished above Man Utd for the first time in Premier League history.
Early scare with the disallowed goal before complete control up until half time.
When it got to 2-3 and Man Utd took the lead in their match, it all became tense.
We got the win and league position we deserved but our interests this season technically aren’t over.
Time to get behind Man City in the FA Cup final.’
