Bucks vs 76ers live score, updates, highlights from Damian Lillard’s debut with Giannis Antetokounmpo

All eyes will be on Damian Lillard on Thursday.

Following 11 years in Portland, where he established himself as one of the greatest players in NBA history, Lillard enters the 2023-24 season in a new situation as a member of the Bucks.

In Milwaukee, Lillard has his best opportunity yet to compete for a championship. The Bucks lost in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs, but they are only two years removed from winning the title and remain home to Giannis Antetokounmpo, who we voted as the second-best player in the NBA today.

With Lillard’s shooting and Antetokounmpo’s paint dominance, they have the potential to be the best one-two punch in the NBA.

Lillard will make his Bucks debut when Milwaukee opens its season against Philadelphia. The Sporting News is tracking live scoring updates and highlights from the game. Follow along with all of the action right here.

Live score, updates, highlights from Damian Lillard’s Bucks debut

9:50 p.m. — Joel Embiid blocks Giannis Antetokounmpo at the rim and Kelly Oubre Jr. cans his fourth 3-pointer of the game, bringing his total to 24 points. A strong showing to start the fourth quarter for the 76ers.

9:49 p.m. — Tyrese Maxey hits two free throws, giving the 76ers a 95-94 lead with 8:20 to go. It’s Philly’s first lead since 5-3.

9:45 p.m. — P.J. Tucker was whistled for his fifth foul, but Nick Nurse challenged it and the call was overturned. More importantly for the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo wasn’t assessed an offensive foul on the play. He’s sitting on four fouls for the game as well.

End of third quarter: Bucks 88, 76ers 85

9:35 p.m. — We have a one-possession game going into the fourth quarter. Could be a fun 12 minutes ahead.

Tyrese Maxey leads the 76ers with 22 points. He’s been awesome after a slow start. Damian Lillard leads all scorers with 25 points, but he scored only four points in the third quarter. The Bucks might need him or Giannis Antetokounmpo to find a groove down the stretch.

9:25 p.m. — The 76ers won’t go away. An 8-0 run has turned this into a two-point game. Their last bucket was a Tyrese Maxey 3-pointer from the parking lot.

Bucks 82, 76ers 80. 2:17 left in the third quarter.

9:19 p.m. — An impressive stretch from Giannis Antetokounmpo against Joel Embiid. After hitting a jumper over Embiid, Antetokounmpo steals the ball from him and throws down a dunk, then draws an offensive foul, marking Embiid’s fourth foul of the game.

Oh, and he also did this to Tyrese Maxey:

That’s just mean.

9:08 p.m. — It’s been the Joel Embiid show to start the second half. He’s scored eight points in the opening three minutes, bringing his total to 19 for the game.

Bucks 71, 76ers 67. 8:39 remaining in the third quarter.

Halftime: Bucks 63, 76ers 54

8:48 p.m. — That was quite the quarter from Damian Lillard. He scored 17 of his 21 points in the second frame.

The 76ers have done a good job against Giannis Antetokounmpo so far. He’s Milwaukee’s second-leading scorer with 10 points, but he’s already committed four turnovers.

Tyrese Maxey and Kelly Oubre Jr. lead the 76ers in scoring at the half with 13 points each.

8:40 p.m. — Here come the 76ers! An 11-0 run has them within single digits. A much-needed run with the half winding down.

8:36 p.m. — I’m pretty sure Damian Lillard and/or Giannis Antetokounmpo have been on the court for every second of this game so far for the Bucks. Being able to stagger them is quite the luxury.

8:29 p.m. — Damian Lillard has scored 13 points in a three-minute span. He’s cooking right now.

Bucks lead 55-37 with 4:26 to go in the half. 76ers call timeout.

8:25 p.m. — Damian Lillard’s first 3-pointer in a Bucks uniform is a four-point play because of course.

Dame’s starting to look more comfortable after a bit of a slow start.

8:23 p.m. — Yeah, Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of one.

8:16 p.m. — P.J. Tucker picks up his third foul of the game with 8:55 remaining in the second quarter. He’s been guarding Giannis Antetokounmpo to start this one, so the 76ers could be in some trouble. It looks like Paul Reed or Tobias Harris will get the assignment for now.

End of first quarter: Bucks 30, 76ers 23

8:05 p.m. — The 76ers have Kelly Oubre Jr. to thank for not being down double figures. He had the hot hand in the first quarter, scoring 10 points off the bench on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the field, 2-for-2 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.

It’s been a balanced effort for the Bucks, who saw nine players score in the opening frame.

7:48 p.m. — We have our first timeout of the game. The Bucks currently lead 15-7. It’s been a strong start for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who scored the first five points of the game for Milwaukee. Joel Embiid leads the 76ers with five points, but his teammates have shot a combined 1-for-6 from the field to start this one.

7:44 p.m. — There it is! Damian Lillard hits a midrange jumper to score his first points as a Buck, giving Milwaukee an early 10-5 lead.

— NBA (@NBA) October 26, 2023

Lillard has started this game shooting 1-for-3 from the field.

7:39 p.m. — The Bucks score their first points of the game with a Damian Lillard-Giannis Antetokounmpo pick-and-roll. Get ready to see a lot of that this season.

Pregame

7:02 p.m. — Starting for the Bucks: Damian Lillard, Malik Beasley, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez.

The 76ers will start Tyrese Maxey, De’Anthony Melton, Tobias Harris, P.J. Tucker and Joel Embiid. James Harden is not with the team due to “return to competition reconditioning.”
