One thing about records is that they’re meant to be broken. Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark is on track to do just that.
As she nears the end of her senior season, Clark is on the verge of rewriting the NCAA record books as the new all-time leading scorer. She entered the 2023-24 season 810 points shy of Kelsey Plum’s record as the women’s all-time scoring leader and 950 points shy of Pete Maravich’s overall mark.
With a nation-leading scoring average of 31.7 points per game, Clark is well on her way to the all-time lead. As she is on the precipice of history, track her progress to catching Plum and Maravich for the scoring crowns.

Caitlin Clark vs. Kelsey Plum’s NCAA women’s scoring title
Caitlin Clark is 176 points shy of tying Kelsey Plum’s record. Based on Clark’s scoring average of 31.7 points per game, she is six games away from becoming the all-time scoring leader in women’s NCAA Division I basketball.
At her current pace, Clark will surpass Plum when Iowa hosts Michigan on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Caitlin Clark is 316 points shy of tying Pete Maravich’s record. Based on Clark’s scoring average of 31.7 points per game, she is 10 games away from becoming the all-time scoring leader in NCAA Division 1 basketball.
At her current pace, Clark will surpass Maravich when Iowa hosts Ohio State in its regular-season finale on Sunday, March 3. The game vs. Ohio State is also senior day for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa has 10 regular-season games remaining before the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament begins on Wednesday, March 6. Iowa will likely earn a top-four finish in conference play, meaning it will earn a double bye and begin its tournament play on Friday, March 8.

In addition to the Big Ten Tournament, Iowa is in line to be in the field for the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. That said, Clark and the Hawkeyes will play at least 12 more times in the 2023-24 season.
Based on her scoring average, Clark will score at least 380 more points, which would put her in clear command of the first spot.

Kelsey Plum, who averaged 25.4 points per game throughout a four-year career at Washington, became the all-time leader with a 57-point showing on Feb. 25, 2017. With her performance, Plum broke a 16-year record held by Jackie Stiles, who scored 3,393 points at Missouri State.
Clark, who averaged 26.6 points per game as a freshman, has a career scoring average of 27.9 points per game and is one of just 16 NCAA Division 1 women’s players to surpass the 3,000-point plateau.

Hall of Famer Pete Maravich has been the all-time scoring leader in NCAA Division 1 since his final season at LSU in 1970.
Maravich’s record is one of the most impressive in basketball history. Because freshmen weren’t permitted to play varsity basketball, Maravich scored 3,667 points in three seasons, doing so before the institution of the 3-point line. Maravich averaged 44.2 points over 83 career games.
