It’s the talk of the town from the last weekend in the Call of Duty League. In a dramatic reverse sweep, OpTic Texas laid waste to the Las Vegas Legion following a dominant performance from the latter team that left OpTic in tatters. It was an intense weekend all around that saw no real power positions change, but instead, it cemented the odds for the season ahead. It’s still Atlanta FaZe and the New York Subliners vying for the top spot in the CDL standings, and both have managed to secure impressive records thus far.
There’s just one final week left in the CDL before we hit the first Major of the year, which will take place in Boston. There are high expectations for four teams at the opening Major: OpTic Texas, Atlanta FaZe, New York Subliners, and Toronto Ultra. It’s hard to see any other team shaping up enough to secure a win, but as always, the underdog element can’t be counted out in Call of Duty’s premier esports tournament.
OpTic Texas Produces Top Reverse Sweep Action
OpTic Texas looked as though it was wavering against the Las Vegas Legion this weekend, flailing wildly in the opening Hardpoint and losing the Search and Destroy round by 3 – 6. At present, Las Vegas Legion is second from bottom in the table, so a win over OpTic – which sits in fourth place – would have been huge for the team. There was a turning of the tide during the round of Control on Highrise, though. OpTic Texas didn’t drop a point, then dominated in the second Hardpoint round, and finally picked up a 6 – 1 record to close out the final SnD round.
Elsewhere, Atlanta FaZe steamrolled the Los Angeles Guerrillas and the Las Vegas Legion, refusing to drop a map and pushing for an epic record thus far in the League. Since the season kicked off at the start of December, FaZe has dropped just three maps, showing that the team – with the recent addition of ‘dad-buffed’ Drazah – is in excellent form.
The New York Subliners also refuse to quit. As last season’s reigning champions, NYSL has a lot to uphold this year, and so far, the team has been doing just that. This weekend saw wins over both Minnesota Rokkr and LA Thieves, with both victories coming in typical effortless fashion for the squad. On that note, fans are worried about LA Thieves. This former world championship-grade organisation still sits flat-bottom in the standings with a meagre map record of 6 – 15 and just one win.
We’ve got one more week until the Major hits – it’s about to heat up.
