Chelsea to recall forward from loan before move to Spain

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has endured a difficult start to his tenure in West London.

With the transfer window now open, those in charge of the Blues’ recruitment will likely be busy searching for potential targets to bolster Pochettino’s squad.

It appears, though, that they are set to recall one of their players from a loan spell in Germany.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the West London outfit are set to recall David Datro Fofana from his loan spell at Union Berlin.

The Ivorian joined Chelsea from Norwegian side Molde in January last year but, having made just four appearances during the second half of last season, he was sent on loan to the Bundesliga side last summer.

Since moving to Germany, the Ivory Coast under-23 international has scored twice in 17 games across all competitions, as well as providing one assist.

Romano claims that, once Chelsea have activated the clause to recall Fofana from Union Berlin, he is likely to join Spanish giants Sevilla.

A deal is said to be close, with the player having already agreed a move to the Spanish club.

During his time with Molde, Fofana scored an impressive 24 goals and provided ten assists in 65 games across all competitions.

Chelsea have had their own problems in front of goal this season, with new signing Nicolas Jackson and academy graduate Armando Broja both struggling to score regularly.
