Two years after leaving the Green Bay Packers, Davante Adams has no regrets about his decision.
Appearing on The Rush with Maxx Crosby show (starts at 1:50 mark), Adams said he will “never regret anything” even if his “career went to s–t” after leaving Green Bay.
Adams received the franchise tag from Green Bay in March 2022 when it was assumed the two sides would attempt to work out a long-term extension.
Instead, Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, who signed him to a five-year, $141.25 million contract, for two 2022 draft picks. He revealed in June 2022 that he actually turned down a bigger offer from the Packers because playing in Vegas was easier on his family:
“There is much more that goes into it and family is a big part of it for me. Geographically, being here it makes it a lot easier for me to stay connected to my family year-round. This isn’t year two or I’m not trying to necessarily fight for a job or anything like that to where you got to do what you got to do, and you got to stay out there. I had the choice, and the choice was for me to come here and raise my family on the West Coast and come out here and have some fun in the sun.”
Adams also spoke about his desire to play with Derek Carr, who was his college quarterback for three seasons at Fresno State from 2011 to ’31. Carr wound up being released by the Raiders after the 2022 season and signed with the New Orleans Saints.
The Raiders cycled through quarterbacks last season starting with Jimmy Garoppolo before shifting to rookie Aidan O’Connell starting in Week 9. It’s unclear who will open this season as the starter between O’Connell and Gardner Minshew II.
Despite all of the quarterback shifting that has happened over the past two seasons, Adams has remained as productive as he’s ever been. The six-time Pro Bowler has racked up 203 receptions, 2,660 yards and 22 touchdowns in 34 games with the Raiders.
It would have been fun to see Adams in the Packers’ offense led by Jordan Love, but he at least seems content with the decision that he made two years ago to leave the franchise he spent the first eight years of his career playing for.
