Dessers reveals changes that former Monaco boss Clement has made at Rangers

Clement took charge of his first game at Ibrox, and Dessers ensured that he started on a good note

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has revealed that new Rangers coach Philippe Clement has demanded that he and his teammates play with more aggression and energy, Soccernet reports.

Rangers have had a rocky campaign this season. The club sacked Michael Beale barely a year into the job after he recorded nine wins from 16 competitive games.

Following his dismissal, the Gers appointed former Monaco coach Celement to take over. The Frenchman joined the club shortly before the international break and has made an impact.

Clement’s first game in charge was against Hibernian on Saturday, and he won convincingly. Rangers thrashed their visitors 4-0 thanks to goals from Dessers, Abdallah Sima, and Nicolas Raskin. It was a convincing performance from the former Scottish champions at Ibrox Stadium. And for Dessers, he finally got the monkeys off his back after scoring just one goal in seven league appearances.

After the game, Dessers shared what Clement told him and his teammates to propel them to victory.

“He (Clement) wants us to play with energy, high pressing, try to press high, try to play forward, aggression,” Dessers told Rangers TV.

“We showed a bit of those today, but there’s still a lot of growth left for us. And I’m sure we will grow, and then we will become a team that is difficult to stop.”

Next up for Rangers is a Europa League fixture at Sparta Prague. Dessers would look to score again and gain the trust of his new boss, as Danilo and Sam Lammers are serious threats to his place in the starting lineup.
