MLB.com is keeping track of all the latest free-agent and trade rumors involving the Dodgers right here.

July 31: Flaherty could be fallback option for Dodgers if JV doesn’t work out
The Dodgers are reportedly engaged in talks with the Mets about Justin Verlander, but with many hurdles to clear to trade for the right-hander, it might make sense for the club to pursue a pitcher that would be more simple to acquire.

The Cardinals’ Jack Flaherty could be that guy, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

“I think Flaherty is a good candidate for [the Dodgers],” Feinsand said Monday on “Chatting Practice” in response to a Dodgers fan who asked about Flaherty. “There’s been a lot of talk about Justin Verlander potentially going to the Dodgers, but that’s going to be a much more complicated trade to make, with how much money the Mets would be including in a deal, whether Verlander would waive his no-trade to go there, he’s got an option for 2025, so a lot of moving parts.

“Flaherty’s a lot more simple. He’s an expiring contract. The Cardinals are motivated to move him by [the Trade Deadline]. … I think the Dodgers will do something to address the rotation, and given that we’ve already seen Lucas Giolito get moved, we’ve already seen [Jordan] Montgomery get moved, it would not surprise me if Jack Flaherty is a guy they’re looking at very closely.”

July 30: ‘Buzz growing louder’ around Dodgers and Verlander (report)
The Dodgers’ starting rotation has been injury-plagued all season, and as a result, two rookies have been asked to shoulder a heavy load behind Clayton Kershaw, Julio Urías and Tony Gonsolin. Urías and Gonsolin have also been struggling, and the overall result has been an ERA over 6.00 among Dodgers starters in July.

The club has been linked in trade rumors with Mets right-hander Justin Verlander as it seeks to fill the void, and according to Ken Rosenthal in an article for The Athletic, “the buzz around the Dodgers and Verlander among scouts is growing louder.”

Ace Walker Buehler and right-hander Dustin May are on the injured list — May is out for the season and Buehler is attempting to return from Tommy John surgery by September, but that is uncertain. Adding Verlander, who is having another strong season for the Mets but may be traded — particularly after New York dealt Max Scherzer to the Rangers amid a disappointing season — would be an instant upgrade for a team looking to make a deep October run.

July 28: Dodgers have interest in Verlander (report)
As sentiment grows that Verlander may well be dealt before the Aug. 1 Trade Deadline, the Dodgers are one of the clubs interested in the veteran right-hander, according to a Los Angeles Times report. The Dodgers reportedly tried to sign Verlander last offseason before he inked a two-year, $86.6 million contract with the Mets that includes a $35 million vesting option in 2025. More>

July 28: Dodgers reach deal for Lynn, Kelly; who else is on their radar?
After acquiring Kiké Hernández and Amed Rosario earlier this week, it appears the Dodgers aren’t done adding to their roster. According to multiple reports, Los Angeles has reached a deal with the White Sox for pitchers Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly.

Lynn owns a 6.47 ERA this season, but he’ll bring some much-needed experience to a Dodgers rotation that is currently relying on three rookies in addition to Julio Urías and Tony Gonsolin, both of whom are having uneven seasons. Kelly is a familiar face for the Dodgers, as he pitched for the team from 2019-21.

So, which other players do the Dodgers have their eyes on? They apparently haven’t given up on trying to acquire third baseman Nolan Arenado, a player they’ve long coveted. Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that they’ve engaged in talks with the Cardinals about a trade for the All-Star third baseman, though a deal is believed to be unlikely.

Among starting pitchers besides Justin Verlander, L.A. has reportedly had discussions about Cardinals pitchers Jack Flaherty and Jordan Montgomery. The Pirates’ Mitch Keller and the Tigers’ Eduardo Rodriguez are also on their radar.

Meanwhile, FanNation’s Pat Ragazzo hears that L.A. has interest in Mets outfielders Tommy Pham and Mark Canha, who are on the trade block after New York began its sell-off by dealing reliever David Robertson on Thursday.

July 27: Dodgers, Cardinals discussing Arenado (report)
Last week, ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reported that the Dodgers have “long been enamored” with Cardinals superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado. As Gonzalez explained, the Cardinals aren’t expected to trade Arenado but given their position as a seller — they’re 11 games under .500 at 46-57 — and the Dodgers’ surplus of young talent, it wasn’t out of the realm.

Now, there seems to be more steam for a potential trade to send Arenado to LA. According to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers have “engaged in talks with the St. Louis Cardinals to acquire the eight-time All-Star third baseman, according to people with knowledge of the situation.” Castillo notes that the Dodgers could also send pitchers Jordan Montgomery or Jack Flaherty to LA in exchange for a package of Major Leaguers and prospects.

As if a Dodgers trade for Arenado wasn’t enough, there is this tidbit: A trade would also “likely include the Dodgers sending Max Muncy or Chris Taylor, if not both, to St. Louis.” The Cardinals are seeking controllable starting pitching, which the Dodgers have plenty of. According to Castillo, Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, Ryan Pepiot and Emmet Sheehan are all names the Cardinals have eyed in any potential deal.

While Arenado has a full no-trade clause, the Southern California native is “willing to waive the clause to play for the Dodgers, and only the Dodgers.” However, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, who spoke with Arenado’s agent Joel Wolfe, reported that the idea that Arenado would only waive his no-trade clause for the Dodgers was “inaccurate.”

A trade of this magnitude, both in terms of the individual player and contract — Arenado is owed $109 million from 2024-27 — makes this a potentially Deadline-altering move.
