A lot of time, effort and money goes into designing Super Bowl rings. Every little detail has a purpose.
That’s why it’s caught many off-guard that one obvious detail on the Chiefs’ Super Bowl ring appears to be incorrect. The inside of the ring details Kansas City’s path to winning a title, which includes the seeds for each team taken down.
There’s one — key — problem: The Dolphins appear to be listed as the No. 7 seed in the AFC. They were actually the No. 6 seed.
I’ve only seen this one graphic so far, but… the Dolphins were definitely the 6-seed! https://t.co/kgWp2qlQZr pic.twitter.com/FWrZm0NXZ0

The other numbers listed next to each team are obviously indicative of the seeds. Buffalo is listed at No. 2, Baltimore is No. 1 and San Francisco is No. 1, the accurate seeds for each of the other three teams beaten by the Chiefs in the playoffs.

But Kansas City opened its playoff run by facing Miami in a No. 3 vs. No. 6 matchup. The Steelers were the No. 7 seed, and they fell to the Bills.
It’s possible the graphic is off and the ring is correct. But if the mistake is legit, it’s certainly an expensive error to have on there.
Chiefs Super Bowl ring cost
The cost to make the Super Bowl ring has not officially been reported. However, the 2020 Super Bowl rings for the Chiefs were reported to cost $11,000 per ring.
There’s a lot that goes into the jewelry. There are reportedly 529 diamonds and 38 rubies included in the making of the ring, according to James Palmer. Much of the jewels included have some sort of symbolism behind them:
16 rubies: 16 outright division titles50 diamonds: Outscored opponents by 50 during the regular season19 baguette diamonds: First team in 19 years to win back-to-back Super Bowls58 diamonds in the ring top: Tribute to Super Bowl 5811 custom-cut rubies: 11 regular-season wins39 diamonds in the word “World”: 39 total touchdowns scored in 202370 diamonds in the word “Champions”: 70 points scored in three playoff games before Super Bowl22 diamonds: 22 points scored in the second half and overtime of the Super Bowl28 diamonds in corners: Chiefs defense that held opponents under 28 points in every NFL game
Chiefs’ Tom and Jerry play
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the ring is the hidden hatch on the top of the ring. A hinge opens the ring up to display a breakdown of the “Tom and Jerry” play, the playcall run by the Chiefs that resulted in Mecole Hardman scoring the game-winning touchdown against the 49ers.
The design is in Andy Reid’s handwriting.
