The regular season may still be weeks away, but that hasn’t stopped the NFL rumor mill from churning. This week, it’s Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel under the spotlight with some social media “reporting.”
According to a report from famed arbiter of veracity “NFL Notifications,” the second-year tactician is starting to draw the ire of some around Miami’s organization. The reason? His cadence, it seems.
The report from X — formerly Twitter — indicates McDaniel’s tepid tenor, coupled with his use of “filler” words, is beginning to wear thin on his Dolphins players.

That’s despite the Fins making the playoffs in 2022, their first postseason appearance since 2016. All things considered, the rift seemed fairly unlikely. Things seemed to run pretty smoothly last year, McDaniel’s first in Miami.
Much of the same is expected in 2023, especially with receivers Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill lighting up secondaries with their inch-perfect route-running and overwhelming speed. Speaking of Hill, the All-Pro-caliber wideout expressed serious levels of doubt over the rumor.
In fact, he more or less called it a fib, taking to X to respond to the claim:

If Hill isn’t excited about his upcoming campaign under McDaniel’s tutelage, he most certainly should be; he’s expected to flourish with another year of studying McDaniel’s system under his belt. In fact, Hill has outsized expectations for himself in the new year, including one mark that has never been touched before:
“I will break 2,000 yards next year, bro,” Hill said on his “It Needed To Be Said” podcast back in June.

Hill’s previous season-high receiving total is the 1,710-yard mark he put up last year (a season in which starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed five games in the regular and postseasons).
Hill is more than certain he has what it takes to smash that 2,000-yard mark to smithereens.
“For me going into Year 2, it’s all about learning the playbook more, understanding where Tua wants me to be at on the field and how just everything operates,” Hill said. “Last year, I was just out there balling. I was just out there just using all athleticism. Like, ‘Here, Tua, I’m going to be here and we’re just going to do that.’ So this year should be a crazier year.”
All of that lends itself to wide receiver and head coach striking a useful relationship. Which, in turn, seems to indicate McDaniel is on good terms with the rest of his unit.
