England head into the third Test of The Ashes this week knowing they must emerge victorious to keep any chance of winning the famous urn alive.

The hosts are 2-0 down after narrow defeats at Edgbaston and Lord’s and another win for Australia would see them take the series.

Despite Ben Stokes’ stunning 155, England lost by 43 runs at Lord’s in controversial circumstances.

Now, they must bounce back to keep the series alive and they’ll know even a draw would see The Ashes return down under.

England vs Australia third Test: Date and start time

The third Test of the Ashes will start on Thursday, July 6 and run to Monday, July 10.

It is being held at Headingley in Leeds.

Play is due to start at 11am each day.

England have made three changes from Lord’s with Ollie Pope, Josh Tongue and Jimmy Anderson being replaced by Moeen Ali, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes.

Harry Brook has been pushed up the order to third.

Meanwhile, Australia will be without Nathan Lyon for the remainder of the series with Todd Murphy poised to replace him.

Scott Boland is also ready for a recall should the visitors decide to mix it up.

England captain Stokes speaking after defeat in the second Test, said: “I definitely think it’s going to be ramped up.

“It’s actually very exciting to know that the way in which we are playing our cricket couldn’t be more perfect for the situation we find ourselves in.

“We have to win these three games to get this urn back.

“We’re a team who are willing to put ourselves out there and do things against the narrative.

“Now, these three games are a better opportunity for us than we’ve ever found ourselves in before.”
