As the fantasy football playoffs continue to heat up, a key player is reportedly set to return to action.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said that wide receiver Chris Olave will be active for the team’s Thursday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Olave had been forced to sit out the Saints’ Week 15 win over the New York Giants due to an ankle injury.
In his second year in the NFL, Olave has established himself as New Orleans’ most productive receiver. He leads the team with 72 receptions, 918 yards and 116 targets. He’s also tied with veteran tight end Jimmy Graham for the team lead with four touchdowns.
In PPR leagues, Olave ranks 23rd with 187.8 fantasy points, per Fantasy Pros. He had a streak of five straight weeks with over 12 points prior to sitting out last week’s matchup.
Without Olave in the lineup, the Saints still got a strong performance out of quarterback Derek Carr. The 32-year-old had a season-high 82.1 completion percentage on 23-of-28 passing for 218 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, ending a streak of three straight games with a pick. However, no receiver on the team recorded over 50 yards. Running back Alvin Kamara led the way with five receptions for 44 yards.
Olave’s return should allow the Saints to take advantage of a Rams defense that is allowing 28.5 fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers.
It wasn’t all good news for the Saints on Wednesday, as Allen added that starting right tackle Ryan Ramczyk will miss his second straight game due to recurring knee issues. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore and receiver Michael Thomas were eligible to return from injured reserve this week, but the team decided not to open their practice windows on a short week.
