That’s it for today on talkSPORT.com’s football news blog.

We’ll be back in the morning with the latest on all the big football stories.

Jude Bellingham has set his sights on sitting alongside the greats of Real Madrid’s history following his dream move to the Spanish giants.

Bellingham sealed a €103million euros (£88.5m) transfer to the Bernabeu from Borussia Dortmund last month, cementing his position as one of the hottest young talents in Europe.

The 20-year-old is aware of the list of stars that have pulled on the famous white shirt over the years, previously citing Zinedine Zidane as a role model, but is targeting a long and successful career of his own.

“That is the motivation for the move in the first place, I want to be at a club that is going to be competing for titles and I want to try and help the team and club be as brilliant as it has been for all of time really,” he told the PA news agency.

“Now is my chance to be part of that history and that goes hand in hand because I know the club wants to win and I want to win so hopefully it will happen.

“It grabs you on its own, the size of the club is already surreal when you think about it, but when you add into that the project they have got in place, it was really important I made this step because it is just the place to be for me.”

Daniel Farke is set to be named as the new Leeds manager, talkSPORT understands.Farke’s appointment has been held up by Leeds’ impending takeover, but personal terms have been agreed.

Brighton have confirmed Joel Veltman has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The Dutch defender extends his stay on the south coast until June 2025.

Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi said: “I am very pleased that he has extended his contract. He is a good example to the other players, and he will be a key and important player for us.”

Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford is in advanced talks over a £19million move to Burnley, talkSPORT understands.

Trafford has been one of the stars of England’s run to the semi-finals of the Under-21 European Championship this summer.

City are open to selling Trafford with the option of a buy-back clause inserted into the deal.

Danny Murphy has defended Steven Gerrard’s move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq.

AG: “He’s gone there for the money!” 🤬

DM: “He’s got plenty of dough!” 🤷‍♂️

AG: “He’s not gone over there to benefit his managerial career!” 😤

Tottenham are hoping to reach an agreement with Wolfsburg for the signing defender Micky van de Ven, talkSPORT understands.

Centre-back Van de Ven, valued at £30m, is open to the move.

Spurs are now ready to make an official approach for the Dutchman.

Luton are in advanced contract talks with goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, talkSPORT understands.

The Hatters want to sign two new ‘keepers in preparation for their Premier League debut.

Former Chelsea and Bournemouth goalkeeper Begovic turned down the offer of a new deal at Everton to return south.

Emile Heskey’s son, Jaden, has signed a professional contract with Manchester City.

The 17-year-old striker was part of City’s academy before being offered his pro deal this summer.

Joining Heskey in getting offered a pro deal at City is True Grant, the son of former Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant.

Granit Xhaka is close to completing a £21.5million move from Arsenal to Bayer Leverkusen, talkSPORT understands.

Arsenal have opted to cash in on Xhaka as the 31-year-old is into the final year of his contract.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are confident of completing the capture of Ajax right-back Jurrien Timber for a fee of around £40m.

And new deals for key defender William Saliba and winger Reiss Nelson are set to be announced this week.

Steven Gerrard has been appointed as the new manager of Al-Ettifaq, the club have confirmed.

The Liverpool legend had reopened talks with the Saudi Pro League side after discussions over a move had previously broken down.

However talkSPORT understands that a lucrative offer has tempted the former Aston Villa boss to the middle east, following his sacking at Villa Park last October.

Al-Nassr have completed the signing of Marcelo Brozovic, the club have confirmed.

The 30-year-old midfielder has completed the move to the Saudi Pro League after they agreed an €18million deal with Inter Milan.

Brozovic joins Cristiano Ronaldo at the side who finished second in the Saudi Arabian top flight last term.

His contract will run until the summer of 2026.

Brighton have reignited their interest in Calvin Bassey, talkSPORT understands.

The Seagulls are interested in Chelsea defender Levi Colwill following a wonderful loan spell on the south coast last term in which he helped the club to a sixth-place finish and a spot in the Europa League.

After having a £30million offer rejected, Chelsea have made it clear that they want to keep Colwill, meaning that Brighton are looking to the former Rangers defender instead.

Bassey joined Dutch side Ajax last summer for a fee of £18.7million and fits the profile of what the club are looking for as a left-sided central defender who can also play at left-back.

Leicester City are considering a move to sign Callum Doyle from Manchester City.

The central defender is a hot prospect at the Etihad Stadium with new Foxes boss Enzo Maresca being a big fan from his time working under Pep Guardiola.

According to reports, Leicester are considering a permanent move for the 19-year-old ahead of the new season.

Doyle spent last season on loan with Coventry City who were just a penalty shootout away from securing Premier League football in the play-off final against Luton.

Man City are said to value the player at between £7million and £10million.

Amad Diallo is ready to be playing in the Premier League next term, says Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman.

The 20-year-old winger spent last term on loan at the Stadium Of Light and really shone with 14 goals in 43 appearances for the Black Cats, including some absolute crackers along the way.

While Sunderland would love to re-sign the player on loan, Speakman believes that Diallo is ready for life in one of Europe’s top leagues with Erik ten Hag to take a look at him this summer.

“I’m so happy Amad sat in here at the end of the season with me and Tony [Mowbray] and had a vibrant smile on his face,” said Speakman, as quoted by The Northern Echo. “He loved it. Naturally, that’s what we want.

“Can Amad return to Sunderland? I don’t think so. He should be playing in tier one, in England, La Liga, Bundesliga, wherever.

“That’s the level of player he is. The staff here, the players and supporters have helped him get back on that journey and hopefully that will attract more players to want to come to Sunderland.”

Enzo Maresca was also asked about the future of Harvey Barnes, but was less certain about him staying around.

The Leicester winger has been linked with a move away with talkSPORT understanding that West Ham will step up their interest once Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal is confirmed.

Discussing the departure, the ex-Man City assistant said: “The market is open, anything can happen. We can bring in players, but we can sell them too.”

Enzo Maresca has said that he wants Jamie Vardy to stay at the club, but admits that anything can happen in the transfer window.

The veteran striker was linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer, but turned them down for family reasons.

With the Foxes adapting to life in the Championship ahead of the new season they’ll need crucial experience, something that the new head coach hopes he can rely on in Vardy.

Asked if he’d like the striker to stay, Maresca said: “Absolutely, yes. He is an unbelievable player. Hopefully he can stay with us.”

Simon Jordan believes that Steven Gerrard’s imminent move to Saudi Arabia won’t do his managerial reputation any good, describing it as ‘a financial decision’.

TalkSPORT understands that the Liverpool legend is set to accept a lucrative offer with Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq, something that Jordan believes will prove to be a short-sighted move on his part.

Speaking on White and Jordan, he said: “These are not football decisions, they are financial decisions. No one can sit here and suggest that if they were in a position where they were offered the money that they wouldn’t think about it themselves.

“If you want to make a football decision that is going to take you on a journey that will make you a very successful manager and you back yourself, then you don’t need to go to Dubai or the Middle East or wherever he’s [Gerrard] going.

“In this instance, this is not a football decision, he’s not going to advance as a coach, he’s not going to enhance his reputation amongst those eyes that might look at him and go, ‘oh look at what you did in the Saudi league.’

“They’re not going to suggest that a Premier League job is going to come available as a result of that, so it’s a financial decision. So let’s characterise it for what it is.”

Declan Rice is set to undergo his Arsenal medical after cutting his holiday short, according to reports.

The Mirror claim the West Ham captain has ensured that he can rubber-stamp the move swiftly after flying back from Dubai.

The report adds that the final details are being sorted out over the £105million move including the structure of payments.

It is believed that a formal announcement of the transfer could take place before the end of the week.

Jesse Lingard has fuelled speculation that he could join Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami this summer on a free transfer.

The ex-Manchester United star was snubbed by his old teammate Wayne Rooney at DC United recently, after he decided against a move for the 30-year-old.

It comes after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of June when his one-year deal at the club ran out.

Lingard is now a free agent, but has found suitors hard to come by.

But he could be playing alongside Messi soon after he sparked speculation that he could join MLS side Inter Miami.

The England international posted videos of himself training at the club’s DRV PNK facility.

A move to Inter Miami is possible as he would not take up one of their designated player slots as he would cost nothing.

Brighton have confirmed the signing of Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper arrives on a long-term deal with the Seagulls paying a fee of £16.3million for his services.

The Dutch starlet enjoyed a wonderful season having made 31 appearances for the Belgian giants.

Roberto De Zerbi told the club website: “I am very pleased to have signed Bart.

He is used to playing a type of football similar to ours and he will have no problem fitting into our group.

He has the potential to become a very important player for the club in the coming years.”

Christian Pulisic looks increasingly likely to leave Chelsea this summer after being the subject of two offers.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues have attracted two offers from Lyon and AC Milan for the American winger, with the French club offering in excess of £21million.

Milan’s offer is worth just £12million due to their reluctance to spend more than the £17million spent on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, however it’s suggested that a move to the San Siro would be the preference for 24-year-old.

Pulisic has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and after falling way down the pecking order, a summer exit seems probable given the club’s ongoing transfer overhaul.

Newcastle United have announced the signing of Sandro Tonali.

The AC Milan star arrives at St James’ Park for an undisclosed fee and has signed a contract that will run until the summer of 2028.

The 23-year-old has been representing Italy at the European Under-21 Championships and is expected to travel to Tyneside on Wednesday.

Speaking to the club’s website, Tonali said: “First of all, I want to thank Newcastle United because they are giving me a huge opportunity for my career.

“I want to repay the trust on the pitch, giving it my all, as I always have.

“I’m really excited about playing at St James’ Park. I can’t wait to feel the warmth of the fans.”

Having also played for Milwall and Newport County among others, King has amassed more than 200 appearances within the Football League.

Speaking to the club’s website, Hodgson said: “I am immensely pleased and proud to be extending my time at Crystal Palace, and I would like to thank the Chairman and Sporting Director for their continued faith in me.
