While Coco Gauff is preparing to tackle his fourth-round opponent at the French Open, his coach, Brad Gilbert is left flabbergasted even before the match begins! But it is not due to his on-court experience but because of an unusual off-court one. Gilbert, known for his candid and colorful commentary, recently expressed one of his worst culinary catastrophes in a Parisian restaurant. Narrating the story on his social media, Gilbert, who is currently in Paris to guide Coco Gauff for her Roland Garros matches, explained how “everything” went wrong in the restaurant.
The former coach of Andy Roddick, Gilbert, recently took to his X and wrote, “Need to vent just had a 2+ hr dinner 🥘 at my hotel 🏨 that was beyond shocking 😳 1st time eating there for dinner in 14 days,..” Further expressing his disbelief at the series of mishaps, he continued, “took forever and they served Zoe raw chicken 🍗 then brought back after 45 mins with same silverware 🥄 on table and got everything wrong on my order…..”
The former tennis pro, Gilbert, is currently back with Coco Gauff after taking a short hiatus from his duties. Although their decision to take some away resulted in a lot of speculation among fans about whether they were ending their professional relationship, Coco Gauff later waved them away. The 20-year-old, who was working with J.C. Faurel in her previous tournaments, explained why the break was necessary.

“We are going to have two tournaments together. We’re going to spend a lot of time together. If you know Brad, it’s good to take a break sometimes,” the reigning U.S. Open champion added. When Gilbert was out of the picture, Gauff’s performance included frequent double faults and her glaring serving errors further raised eyebrows in the tennis world.
However, coming into the French Open, armed with the support of Gilbert, Gauff’s improvement is palpable. She has already qualified for the quarterfinal in Paris and will soon battle with Ons Jabeur. As she moves ahead in the tournament, Coco Gauff also explains why she has an advantage when it comes to playing on clay.

Coco Gauff’s fourth-round match against Elisabetta Cocciaretto ended with her winning in straight sets. The former quarterfinalist of the French Open (2023) is now a few steps away from clinching her second grand slam. But what is the reason behind her swift movements on clay? She explained it recently by stating, “I’m lucky to have been able to train on clay since I was 10, which is not common for most Americans.” The world No. 3 further added, “It’s something that I work on. I do like to slide for some of those crazy drop shots, and sometimes I do surprise myself.”
Therefore, the anticipation is high among fans, who will now wait for her upcoming performances on-court. As the Roland Garros tournament unfolds, Coco Gauff will continue achieving milestones on-court with Brad Gilbert’s support. Although the restaurant debacle left a bitter taste in his mouth, Gilbert knows what to truly focus on helping Gauff fulfill her dream in Paris.
