Fulham and Middlesbrough joined Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-finals after wins against Everton and Port Vale respectively.
Tosin Adarabioyo scored the winning spot-kick in a dramatic shoot-out against Everton, after the match at Goodison Park ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Fulham took the lead after four minutes when Everton’s Michael Keane turned the ball into his own goal, but his team found a late equaliser through Beto.
It looked as if Everton might be able to push on and win the match, but the final whistle blew and the encounter was decided on penalties.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s spot-kick was saved by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, while Bernd Leno kept Fulham in the shoot-out by saving Amadou Onana’s effort.
Idrissa Gueye hit the post once the shoot-out had entered sudden death, giving Adarabioyo the opportunity to send Fulham through to a first domestic semi-final in 22 seasons.
They are joined in the Carabao Cup final four by Middlesbrough, who enjoyed a more straightforward victory against Port Vale.
The Championship side recorded a 3-0 victory against their League One opponents, with captain Jonny Howson, Morgan Rogers and Matt Crooks all on the score-sheet at Vale Park.
It was Rogers’s fourth goal in the Carabao Cup, putting the 21-year-old joint-top of the scoring charts alongside Jake Garrett of Blackburn Rovers.
Middlesbrough have reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals for the first time since they won the tournament in 2004.
They are the only non-Premier League team left in the competition, with Liverpool and West Ham set to play the remaining quarter-final tomorrow.
Elsewhere, Chelsea and Newcastle also went to a penalty shoot-out after Mykhailo Mudryk scored a stoppage-time equaliser for the hosts.
