Manchester United Women completed a first pre-season training session at St George’s Park on Monday, and manager Marc Skinner was handed an immediate boost by the return of two players.
The Reds were without both Gabby George and Jess Simpson for the majority of last season, after the pair each suffered ACL injuries in the autumn.
George was forced off in a 1-1 Women’s Super League draw against Leicester City in mid-October, and the manager revealed that he expected the defender to be absent for around 12 months.
Just a few days later, the club reported that a similar fate had befallen Simpson, who was in the midst of a season-long loan arrangement at Bristol City.
It’s good to be back!

The pair were unable to feature in any of the season’s remaining games, and had to watch on as the Reds blazed to a first piece of major silverware by winning the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
But on day one of pre-season 2024/25, both George and Simpson were pictured taking part in our first session of the new campaign.
Our non-international players returned to Carrington last week for two days of testing, before heading to St George’s Park to take advantage of the elite facilities on offer at the national football centre.
George and Simpson, and the rest of the squad, will initially prepare there for the forthcoming season, before returning to Carrington.
In early August, players that were busy on international duty in early July will report back to join the group.
From there, work will intensify, building up to our opening game of the Women’s Super League season: a home fixture against West Ham on the weekend of 21/22 September.
