The penultimate episode of Hard Knocks: Offseason With the New York Giants went down on Tuesday, and it offers some great access and eye-opening insight into Big Blue’s pre-draft process.
One of the segments featured the team hosting the 2024 draft’s top three wide receiver prospects—Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze—in the building at the same time.

Having Malik Nabers, Marvin Harrison Jr. & Rome Odunze in the building at the same time is pretty sick.
The cameras caught all three getting in a film session with Giants wide receivers coach Mike Groh.

Later on, Giants owner John Mara asked Groh point blank which one he would take, and the coach emphatically said Nabers. That was undoubtedly seen as a hot take, especially with Harrison widely considered the top wideout (and in some cases, the No. 1 prospect overall).
But Nabers is now a Giant after the team stayed put at No. 6 and took the LSU star. It’s clear the team is happy with that.

After seeing what he saw on film live in person, it was clear, Daboll was absolutely sold on Malik Nabers.#HardKnocks #NYGiants
Daboll also spoke with Mara and co-owner Steve Tisch about a conversation he had with ex-Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who said that Nabers was a “f–king problem” when the Crimson Tide faced him. He also seemed very relaxed at the time.

Brian Daboll is a laidback chill mofo. Who goes to their boss’s office & puts their feet up on the table while relaxing in their coach? 🤣 #HardKnocks
The Giants’ love for the quarterbacks in this draft class also shined through, though.
Based on this episode, it appears the Giants were enamored with both LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels and UNC signal-caller Drake Maye, who eventually went second and third overall to the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots, respectively. Daboll said in a meeting that he would trade up for Daniels.

Giants wanted Jayden Daniels so bad. #HardKnocks
Even Schoen’s son wanted the Giants to get Daniels.

Joe Schoen’s son didn’t mince his words when pops asked who to draft 😂
“Trade up for Jayden Daniels you only get this job once”
JS made it sound like he knew WAS was going JD already. So he asked who else?
Next name out was Drake Maye and a WR.
Smart kid! #Giants #HardKnocks
Daniels ultimately wasn’t sneaking by Washington at No. 2 though.
In April, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that the Giants offered their 2025 first-round pick and the No. 6 overall choice in 2024 as part of a trade package to the Patriots for the No. 3 overall pick.
However, the Patriots wanted far more for the No. 3 pick. Ultimately, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf made it clear to Giants general manager Joe Schoen that New York would need make an offer New England couldn’t refuse. That wasn’t a road the Giants were willing to go down, and no deal transpired.

Not surprised the #Giants knew hours before the draft they can’t move up to take the QB they wanted. This confirmed on #HardKnocks when Pats GM said “it would probably have to be crazy” for us to move 3 and reiterated multiple times how they need a QB.
Just never had a real shot
The Giants wanted Harrison or Nabers at No. 6 but had a backup plan with the Chicago Bears to trade down at No. 9 too.
GiantsBlueBlooded @RealTlkFB
Could’ve potentially traded out of 6, to pick 9 for a 3 & 4 from Chicago? That would’ve been real interesting. #HardKnocks
Ultimately, this episode offered a lot of access into the Giants, a thought that wasn’t lost on viewers.

Watching some of the key 30 visits on Hard Knocks was insanely good. Might be best content I’ve seen in the series ever

#HardKnocks with the @Giants could be the best season yet. Unbelievable access and so well produced.
Next Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET will feature the series’ fifth and final episode. Fans can catch it on HBO or stream it on Max.
