Highlights as Gut-Behrami edges out Huetter for women’s super-G win in Kvitfjell
Lara Gut-Behrami came away with victory in the Super-G in Kvitfjell, Norway, to extend her overall World Cup lead.
The Swiss star has now won six World Cup races in 2024 alone and leads the way in three individual disciplines as well as the overall World Cup standings.
She got the better of a pair of Austrian skiers in Kvitfjell, her time of 1:33.52 beating Cornelia Huetter and Mirjam Puchner by 0.12 and 0.13 seconds respectively.
The win allowed Gut-Behrami to extend her lead in the Super-G to 25 points from Huetter, while she now has a comfortable 305-point lead in the overall standings over Mikaela Shiffrin.
“There’s no strategy, it’s just I am trying to enjoy more what I am doing,” said Gut-Behrami after her 45th career World Cup win. “I know I am not going to race a 1000 races more, so I am trying to enjoy the way I am skiing, the good feeling I have and to have fun while I am skiing.”
At 32, she is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, her third super-G win of the season adds to the four giant slaloms and a solo downhill triumph for her best ever World Cup haul.
“It’s amazing, I am really happy about that,” she added. “I never expected to be still racing at 32 and to be that consistent is great.”
Shiffrin is set to return to action next weekend after an extended break through injury, but Gut-Behrami can give herself more breathing room in Saturday’s second Super-G event.
